You asked

I would like to request the statistics on sexual assaults, including rapes, against university students in the UK for the past 10 years. I would also like the outcomes of these assaults.

Thank you for your request.

We do not hold the exact information requested, however we hope you may find the following information helpful.

We publish statistics taken from the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) and crimes recorded by the police.

Figures for sexual assault and rape by personal characteristics (including the respondents occupation and employment status) are available from Table 7 in our Sexual Offending: Victimisation and the path through the criminal justice system article. These data refer to the year ending March 2016 to the year ending March 2018. These estimates are based on three years of CSEW data to provide robust estimates. As such, data for the past 10 years is unavailable.

The CSEW does not sample from the entire adult population of England and Wales; it interviews adults residing in households and does not cover people living in group residences (for example, students' halls of residence). It is therefore not representative of the whole university student population.

Crime outcomes (formally detections) are the responsibility of the Home Office. They can be contacted at CrimeandPoliceStats@homeoffice.gov.uk.

The sources referred to above only cover England and Wales; we do not hold police recorded crime data or crime survey data covering the whole of the UK.

Crime-related data for Scotland are published by the Scottish Government and are available here: https://www.gov.scot/Topics/Statistics/Browse/Crime-Justice

Police recorded crime data for Northern Ireland are published by the Police Service of Northern Ireland and are available here: https://www.psni.police.uk/inside-psni/Statistics/. Data from the Northern Ireland Crime Survey are published by the Department of Justice and are available here: https://www.justice-ni.gov.uk/articles/northern-ireland-crime-survey.

If you have any crime-related queries in the future, you can email crimestatistics@ons.gov.uk and we will endeavour to help.
