Please can you provide me with the raw uncombined statistics that you used to create the data in your 'BAME Covid' report available via the following link: https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/deaths/methodologies/coronavirusrelateddeathsbyethnicgroupenglandandwalesmethodology.

I require the data with the ethnic groups in their uncombined 16 Census categories, regardless of how small the figures are.

Thank you for your query regarding raw, disaggregated COVID-19 death data by ethnic group in England and Wales.

Please see the following publication, which provides a count of COVID-19 deaths by ethnicity and sex, with 18 categories of ethnicity: Counts of deaths involving the coronavirus (COVID-19) and all deaths by ethnic group, England and Wales

Note: Our mortality data is based on the death registration process, using information taken directly from the death certificate. Ethnicity is not recorded as part of the death registration process and does not form part of the death certificate. This study has been completed using Census 2011 linked data.

We would be unable to provide you with raw COVID-19 death data, as this would constitute personal information. Section 39 of the Statistics and Registration Service Act 2007 (SRSA) renders it a criminal offence to release personal information held by the Board for statistical purposes. This includes the personal information of those who are deceased. As the disclosure of the requested information is prohibited by another enactment, the information is considered exempt under Section 44 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA).

If you would like to discuss your requirements further, please contact health.data@ons.gov.uk.
