Infections

The COVID-19 Infection Survey is a representative household survey which estimates the number of people testing positive for COVID-19.

In the data set accompanying our latest bulletin you can find the following data:

  • Number of swab tests per day up to 06 November in United Kingdom on tab 8f
  • Percentage testing positive for COVID-19 by non-overlapping 14-day periods (weighted) for:
  • England on tab 1d (09 May and 06 November 2020)
  • Wales on tab 4d (04 July and 06 November 2020)
  • Northern Ireland on tab 6d (01 August and 06 November 2020)
  • Scotland on tab 7d (26 September and 06 November 2020)

The Department of Health and Social Care produce the number of confirmed daily cases and the number of virus tests processed daily in their dashboard here.

Deaths:

Total figures for COVID-19 deaths with no underlying health conditions from March to June 2020 are available on Table 5 of the following publication: Deaths involving COVID-19 in England and Wales, this means where no other underlying condition was listed on the death certificate.

  • No pre-existing condition: England and Wales - 4476

  • No pre-existing condition: England - 4169

  • No pre-existing condition: Wales - 294

Unfortunately, we do not currently undertake analysis on COVID-19 deaths with details around the death such as no pre-existing conditions. This is due to the decrease in the number of COVID-19 related deaths. Whilst the number of infections appear to be rising, granular analysis of COVID-19 deaths from July onwards pose a disclosure risk, making it possible to identify individual records.

We will certainly look to publish this data again should there be a significant rise in deaths. We are constantly reassessing this to see how we can continue to publish analysis to inform users.

If you would like to discuss these statistics further, please contact health.data@ons.gov.uk.

Hospital admissions:

Unfortunately, we do not hold data pertaining to admissions to and from hospital. Public Health England may be better placed to assist with this part of your request. They can be contacted via email at wn_coronavirus@phe.gov.uk.
