Summary of request

The tables include both mean and median equivalised income and expenditure. This is calculated by assigning income and expenditure to each household rather than to all individuals within that household. Disposable income and expenditure have been adjusted to exclude housing costs (such as council tax, mortgage payments), holiday spending, life assurance and pension contributions, other insurance payments, spending on the purchase or alteration of dwellings, savings and investments and pay-off loans. Disposable income is broken down by five year age bands as well as categories for above and below 50 years of age. The household reference person age is used to assign a household to an age band. The household reference person is the person with the main responsibility for the property (the person who owns the property or who is legally responsible for the rent).
