I am writing to request a more detailed summary of the ONS and Annual Consular MI Data about the number of British people involved in road traffic accidents abroad. We are keen to:

  • establish the number of deaths and serious injuries (resulting in hospitalisation) arising from RTAs

  • determine the vehicles most likely involved

  • ascertain single death/injury versus multiple death/injury

  • identify whether the RTA deaths and serious injury affected drivers, passengers, people using public transport, pedestrians and the type of vehicle involved.

We are responsible for publishing mortality statistics for deaths registered in England and Wales, using the information supplied on the death certificate. The most recent year for which mortality statistics are available is 2018.

Unfortunately, we do not have information for deaths registered outside of England and Wales.
