Thank you for your request.
We produce statistics from two main data sources, Workforce Jobs statistics and Business Register and Employment Survey statistics. We have grouped your requests below and, where possible, linked to the data that we hold.
Workforce Jobs statistics are a quarterly measure of jobs in the UK and are the preferred measure of short-term employment change by industry. Estimates of employee jobs by industry, sex, and employment status can be found in the JOBS03: Employee jobs by industry dataset, from June 1978 to December 2024. Estimates for aviation can be found in Standard Industrial Classification 2007 (SIC 2007) division 51: Air Transport, which includes the transport of passengers or freight by air or via space. The equivalent estimates for self-employed jobs can be found in the JOBS04: Self-employment jobs by industry dataset. These data are not available by region, or at lower industry classifications.
Business Register and Employment Survey statistics provide data on the number of employees in the UK in the public and private sector, on a full-time and part-time basis, at detailed industrial and geographical levels. Regional estimates at this industry level are not available on our website, but are available on the Nomis website, where users can select a range of industry codes and geographies to meet their needs. Estimates for aviation can be found in SIC 2007 division 51: Air Transport, which includes the transport of passengers or freight by air or via space.
