We are responsible for the production of mortality data in England and Wales, this is driven by information collected from the death certificates at death registration. For Scotland and Northern Ireland statistics please contact National Records Scotland and NISRA respectively.
We produce the following publication: Deaths registered monthly in England and Wales. This includes a monthly breakdown of deaths by all causes and area of usual residence. This data is available from 2006 to November 2020 (provisional). Please see the following mortality totals for 2019 and 2020, taken from this publication:
- 2019 deaths, January to December: 529,553
- 2020 deaths, January to November: 550,555
